Harnessed With Pride To #StandOut For Guide
Dogs Week
The historic stone lion on London's picturesque South Bank is
standing out for Guide Dogs this week, as it proudly wears one
of the charity's iconic harnesses. The gigantic South Bank Lion
statue, which looks out across the Thames and Westminster, is
sporting the high viz installation as part of our celebrations
Let’s Glow for
Guide Dogs Week (4-12 October).
Measuring over 13 feet and weighing around 13 tons, it took a
special taskforce to create a harness for such a large animal.
David Pryke and his team at the Guide Dogs Workshop in Warwick
handmade the bespoke design, which will stay in place throughout
Guide Dogs Week and will be seen by thousands of passers-by in
the coming days.
Just like The South Bank Lion, you can also show your support
during
Guide Dogs Week and join in the Let’s Glow Dress-in-Neon
Day on Friday 10 October or donate an hour of your time to stand
out for blind and partially sighted people around the UK.
Why we need your help
-
Every hour, another person in the UK goes blind.
- 180,000 blind and partially sighted people rarely leave home
alone. Guide Dogs is committed to changing this.
- A visually impaired person could be partnered with as many as
eight dogs in their lifetime, and each partnership costs
£35,500.
Please donate now and help us train more guide dogs. The more
guide dogs we train, the more lives we can change.
