Ever struggled to take that perfect interior
photo? We’ve got some top tips from professional photographer and
interiors specialist, Josh Kearns, on how to take a great photo.
The three key things to
remember when taking a good interiors photo are lighting, composition
and having a steady base.
Let there be light
Take advantage of your natural ambient
lighting - bright sunshine isn’t always best
Keep your primary light source behind
you to illuminate your scene
Is there a light in your picture? You
can use it as a spotlight or soften it by shining it against a wall
Steady Eddy
The best pictures are taken with a
steady base, so don’t forget your tripod. Or if you’re on the go,
lean against a wall or carry a little beanbag to rest your phone or
camera on.
Keep your camera dead straight when
taking your picture, if it’s tipped forward or backwards you can
skew the perspective
Re-cropping and levelling photos post
production can give your photos that quality finish. Good editing
programmes include Photoshop, Lightroom and Capture One
Composed composition
Take control of your setting, move
things around and keep taking pictures until you're happy with the
set up Don't be afraid of a close up -
sometimes it’s more powerful to imply something rather than show
the whole piece
Make sure your vertical and horizontal
lines are straight, wonky lines are your enemy. If you’re using a
smartphone, switch on the grid setting to ensure everything is level
