Guide Dogs
for Young People
Did you know that in 2009 we lowered the guide
dog owner age to under 16?
We ran a three year pilot to assess the practicalities, as well
of the benefits, of providing a guide dog to young people under
the age of 16. Those young people who trained with a guide dog
during the pilot made excellent progress and the impact the dog
made really was life- changing.
In light of all this we decided to remove the minimum age for
guide dog ownership, and to carefully roll out the provision of
guide dogs to young people under the age of 16, across the UK.
Sponsorship of a Guide Dog makes the ideal
Christmas gift.
Why we need your help
- Every hour, another person in the UK goes blind.
180,000 blind and partially sighted people rarely leave home
alone. Guide Dogs is committed to changing this.
A visually impaired person could be partnered with as many as
eight dogs in their lifetime, and each partnership costs
£35,500.
Please donate now and help us train more guide
dogs. The more guide dogs we train, the more lives we can change.
