The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association ("Guide Dogs") is one of the UK's best-known, and best-loved, charities. Guide dogs have been bringing independence and mobility to blind and partially-sighted people for over 75 years, and today there are more than 4,700 guide dog partnerships in the UK.

Each year Guide Dogs breeds around 1,000 puppies, which spend their first year in the homes of volunteers, before working with specialist trainers who teach them the skills needed to guide a visually-impaired person. This takes about six months, including several weeks' training with the new owner. A guide dog has a working life of around six-and-a-half years, and it's not unusual for someone to have five or more dogs over their lifetime.

While the guide dog service is at the core of our activities, there are two other key aspects to our work:

- Campaigning on issues that affect the quality of life of visually-impaired people and restrict their freedom and independence - such as access, mobility and the availability of rehabilitation services.

- Educating the public about protecting their eyes, and funding research into different eye diseases with the aim of

We have four Dog Training Schools in Redbridge, Leamington, Bolton and Forfar, a Breeding Centre near Leamington, and 28 district teams across the UK. We employ over 800 professional staff, but rely equally on the support and dedication of more than 10,000 volunteers.

Preventing sight loss; particularly among those who are visually-impaired but have some residual vision.  The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

Barnardo’s is the leading children’s charity in the UK. There are 415 projects working with over 100,000 children, young people and their families every year - helping some of the most vulnerable children believe in themselves, and putting them on the path to a better future.

The range of work is vast. Barnardo’s supports children and young people who are growing up in very difficult circumstances - coping with poverty, family illness, parental alcohol misuse, homelessness, disability and bereavement. No matter where they live, or what they have been through, Barnardo’s helps every child turn their life around.

Barnardo’s Child Sponsorship is the only programme of its kind in the UK (we think!). It is a wonderful chance for sponsors to make a special commitment to helping vulnerable children and young people, close to home.

In return, the sponsors can follow the progress of their sponsored child or young person on their own personalised website. They’ll get updates from the child and their project worker, giving them a real, and unique, insight into how their gifts are making a difference.                    Barnardo's Child Sponsorship

Here at the Eden Project we have created a range of ethical products that make great Christmas gifts that are not only great to receive, but also great to give, because every one is in some way helping to create a more sustainable future for all of us.
These products have been selected because they show how we can use our resources more effectively by recycling materials into new products, by avoiding the use of limited resources when more sustainable alternatives are available, or completely re-thinking how the product is made to avoid unnecessary materials and energy in their production. We also choose products whose revenues are fairly returned to the communities in which they are made, whether here or further afield, since we believe that a sustainable future depends upon sustainable communities around the world.

The World Land Trust is a conservation charity that has helped purchase and protects over 400,000 acres of rainforest and other threatened wildlife habitats worldwide.
In some areas in South America it is possible to save an acre of rainforest for as little as £50. In other areas it is more expensive, but rest assured, donations are still used in the same way: to enable partner organisations to purchase threatened wildlife habitat and protect them as permanent reserves.

ActionAid is an international development charity working with the poorest and most marginalised people to end extreme poverty and injustice around the world. The way we work is different. We tackle the causes of poverty, as well as its symptoms. We are rooted in the communities where we work, so we understand the problems people face, and we help poor people to take control of their own lives and work their own way out of poverty. Together, this means that we create solutions that last.

Child sponsorship is an incredible way to make a lasting difference in the life of a child and an entire community. As an ActionAid child sponsor, you will be the only sponsor of a real child in need of help. With your help, your sponsored child and their parents, friends and neighbours will tackle the issues that really matter to them, such as a lack of safe clean water, chronic hunger and malnutrition or a lack of safe health care. You will get photos of the child you sponsor, along with two messages a year along with community reports from our field workers. This will allow you to see the incredible difference you're making first-hand. You can even write back to your sponsored child, giving you the opportunity to forge and incredibly special and unique relationship. Sponsorship costs just 50p a day. ACTION AID

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We have discovered new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer that together have saved millions of lives across the world.

We have been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last thirty years. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point. Our groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive. We work in partnership with others to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against cancer.

We provide life-changing information to anyone affected by cancer. We run awareness initiatives so that cancer can be detected early and help people reduce their risk of the disease. And our campaigning and lobbying keeps cancer at the top of the political agenda.

We receive no government funding for our research so our supporters are crucial if we are to continue to make real progress against this disease.   Cancer Research UK - Direct Giving

Platform 51 is a national women’s charity that inspires and supports girls and women as they take control of their lives.

Every year we empower thousands of vulnerable girls and women to turn their lives around and build a better future. We help them improve their confidence, overcome challenges in their lives and help them learn new skills. We give them a platform to have their say and challenge discrimination.

We know there’s thousands more girls and women who desperately need our help, so we are looking at ways we can find new people who are interested in supporting our vital work with a financial donation.
